EMMA

Understand. Decide. Act. With cognitive AI.

Cognitive AI combines information processing with the execution of defined tasks. EMMA recognizes content on the user interface, contextualizes it within the relevant process, and carries out the next steps based on predefined rules.

This enables the support and automation of workflows that previously required manual decisions, repetitive tasks, or the use of multiple systems.

How Cognitive AI Works

Many business processes follow a clear logic: gather information, evaluate it in context, make decisions based on defined rules, and then execute the next step.

Cognitive AI applies this principle to digital processes. EMMA processes information from various sources, recognizes elements on user interfaces, and executes pre-programmed process steps based on rules.

This makes it possible to automate tasks that require interpreting information, preparing decisions, or connecting multiple systems. The foundation for this is provided by defined rules, verified workflows, and traceable documentation.

EMMA's Four Skills

EMMA puts the principles of cognitive AI into practice. The solution combines four core capabilities that together form the foundation for processing information and performing tasks.

Abstract data streams and interface rings convey AI perception and the processing of sensor signals. It fits topics like multimodal AI, computer vision, pattern recognition, and real-time analytics for industrial use cases.
Perception

Sees and recognizes all elements on the desktop (icons, files, buttons, menus, etc.)

Analytics panels and an AI icon represent natural language processing and turning large text volumes into structured insights. It fits topics like LLMs, information extraction, semantic search, and automating document workflows in enterprise settings.
NLP (Natural Language Processing)

Reads whatever is displayed or playing on the desktop: data, text, numbers, files, etc.

Understand

Decide what to do next based on the information displayed (business rules)

Who is EMMA?

EMMA (Electronic Multi Media Assistant) is a platform for cognitive automation developed by WIANCO. The solution uses principles of cognitive AI to capture information, evaluate it within the context of a process, and automatically execute defined tasks.

As a no-code platform, EMMA enables the automation of business processes even in complex system landscapes. Business units can model and review recurring workflows and adapt them to changing requirements.

Execution is based on previously defined process steps, established rules, and approved workflows. This allows recurring tasks to be handled more efficiently, while IT teams are relieved of operational duties and can focus more on architecture, governance, and strategic issues.

What Companies Can Achieve with EMMA

7x
Increase in productivity per employee
85%
Better communication within the team and with customers
48h
Average automation time per process
98 %
Quality improvement and resilience

Every Decision Remains Transparent

Transparency is crucial, especially when it comes to automated processes. Companies must be able to understand how decisions are made and what information was taken into account.

EMMA automatically documents workflows and decisions, thereby creating a traceable foundation for quality assurance, inspections, and audits. Processes remain transparent and can be reviewed even after the fact.

This builds trust in automated workflows and provides a robust foundation for the use of cognitive AI in business-critical processes.

A human hand and a robotic hand on a keyboard represent cognitive AI supporting high-stakes decisions and operations. It fits content on decision support, governance, risk and quality controls, and deploying AI in mission-critical enterprise workflows.

EMMA generates audit-compliant reports

Use screenshots and highlight the elements in each step to show which action was used to make a decision.
Can be easily read and reviewed by (external) auditors without IT knowledge. Can be used as a user manual.

Cognitive AI and Traditional Automation

Traditional automation solutions and cognitive AI pursue similar goals but have different focuses.

While rule-based automation primarily supports standardized processes, cognitive AI also processes information within its specific context and can use it to make decisions and take actions.

The following comparison highlights typical differences between the two approaches.

EMMA FAQs

How does EMMA work? What are the requirements? How secure is the data processed? And how quickly can the solution be implemented? Here you’ll find answers to frequently asked questions about the cognitive AI platform.

EMMA is a cognitive AI solution that automates processes and increases efficiency. After just two days of training, users can automate complex tasks without needing IT knowledge because EMMA is a no-code solution.

Once installed on a provided workstation, EMMA can interact with existing applications and websites as a human user would.

EMMA makes decisions based on numbers, text, and patterns. It processes information, evaluates it in context, and determines next steps accordingly.

This enables the automation of complex processes without replacing existing systems or launching extensive development projects.

EMMA prioritizes the security of the data it processes. The solution can be operated on-premises, meaning it can be used locally within the company’s own environment.

No general connection to external AI or cloud services is required to execute previously trained and approved processes. Thus, processing remains within the company’s defined system environment.

However, external AI components or cloud services can be integrated on a case-by-case basis for clearly defined, tested, and customer-approved use cases. This allows for the controlled use of AI and ensures that it adapts to the respective security and compliance requirements.

Yes. As part of a do-it-yourself proof of concept, we offer you the opportunity to try out EMMA yourself and automate your first processes.

This requires a two-day training session, during which you will learn how to work with EMMA. The training is designed for one to five people and is subject to a fee.

Afterward, we will install the desired EMMA environment at your company. You will then have 30 days to test the solution in your system and gain experience with process automation.

Yes. We will help you tailor EMMA to your specific processes, requirements, and goals. Together, we will explore how to best integrate the solution into your existing system landscape and deploy it for your use cases.
